No longer agent

Except we are!

Didn't find your answer?

Hi all

Bottom right of the 'about your client' info screen on the HMRC site suddenly says

HM Revenue & Customs does not have a record of an agent for you.

Select this link to  Authorise an agent

HMRC still talk to us, so clearly we are still agents, but anyone else had this happen (it's last few days)?

Just looked at a new client on my list and it shows no agent recorded. Same for his wife despite having been a client for many years.
HMRC not aware of an issue

Same with me. Looking at the page headed 'About your client' the bottom right hand corner says

"HM Revenue & Customs does not have a record of an agent for you. Select this link to Authorise an agent"

I tested several clients and all are the same. Great stuff.

Hmph, well at least we still are agents (or, oddly, we wouldn't be able to see the message saying we weren't agents...).

Silly HMRC...

It was covered today in a meeting at our firm resulting from a training course one of the staff has been on. Agents authorised using a paper 64-8 are not automatically recognised for all online systems any more, only those authorised through the online process.

I think it only affects what you can do online though and HMRC will still deal with you as normal through all other channels.

I went a little further today and clicked on the little question mark by the 'Authorised Agent' link and got this (for a sole trader)

"You can appoint an agent to act for you by clicking on this link. If you wish to do this the Agent you choose must be registered to act online for Corporation Tax customers of HM Revenue & Customs. Before you continue you will also need to know the Agent's 'Government Gateway Id' plus (optionally) any internal reference the Agent may use for your company when acting for you.

The details displayed are the latest we hold and any amendments submitted online within the last 48 hours may not yet be displayed due to processing delay. "

What can I say?
