Nominate your moderator

Following on from the recent long thread......

Didn't find your answer?

It was suggested that we have a contributor or two as moderator(s) on this site. To start the ball rolling (and he is going to loathe me for this), there is for me only one candidate and that has to be fawltybasil. Deeply knowledgeable and unfailingly courteous even with the more intellectually challenged offerings that appear.

Who would you have? Keep it light.

Definitely PNL. Chief moderator. That’ll slow down the invasion a little

And her "quality of mercy is not strained; it droppeth as the gentle rain of heaven"

Then again we also have:

I’d support that, but I think we should be careful about appointing anyone north of the border. Look what happened with all this devolution nonsense

If we march south we will only come down as far as Derby then turn and head back here.

Ach - you're way past the best bit.

Is Doncaster still in Scotland ? Apparently, it was at one time owing to some legislative oversight. Which raises the question - are folk in Doncaster Scottish taxpayers ?

EDIT - Yes it is

Given my only knowledge of Doncaster is out of a train window, do we actually want it?

I suppose we could always take it and use it as a swap card to build a different set . (I played computer Monopoly with family just over a week ago).

I suspect I would prefer Berwick, Morpeth Alnwick, Bamburgh etc instead.

Berwick ? Well, it would add another three border bridges across the Tweed, I suppose.

Doncaster has a race course with two Classics every year (Covid19 permitting), lovely little soccer/rugby ground, pleasant shopping area in Frenchgate, home of Arkwright's shop - what more could you want ?

Just looked on Google, that shopping centre looks awful, it is the sort of thing I used to get dragged around when I was stepping out/just married, I have spent the near 30 years since trying to avoid such places.

I'm not sure what a moderator would do. Sift are content with an 'open door' policy so what would the moderation "rules" be?

@ paulwakefield1 (OP): mikeyban: Southwestbeancounter: Cheshire.

Do FORGIVE me for not acknowledging your kind comments sooner. It is gratifying that my limited contributions to the site are appreciated by you. There are many members who contribute substantially more prodigiously, and largely with great respect.

[Noting Paul's request that responses are kept "light", perhaps the site would benefit from having TWO "moderator members", ie PNL and Justin, who would NEVER agree on anything. Give each of them the right to "ban" the member whom they considered was at fault (whenever any member expressed a view which contradicted that of any other member); and the consequence would ultimately be that we were ALL banned for life:) - happy days !].

Basil.

Mr Fawlty you certainly live up to your name lol . i would hope that the moderators would be paid to carry out this function as it might take up a lot of their precious time, i might even be tempted to pay an annual fee of £10 as despite its faults its a very valuable resource.

Yes absolutely, i have clicked on fawltybasils name just to read his answers in the past because his answers are better than any subscription. But i cannot leave out lionofludesh, DJKL, Paul Crowley, Cheshire, David Winch etc etc. (not sure if moderators or contributors). You have all been the best support to me without knowing. I turn to AWeb before colleagues. Ive not met any colleagues who love tax as much as me, its just a day job for others ive noticed, so this forum is brilliant. I am still fairly new and lots to learn, but for me, AWeb tops any other. I wake up and check 'any answers' like it is my alarm.

Thank you to everybody who contribute, you never know who you are helping or how valuable your answer is. I have 'thanked' answers from years ago, just because i still want the person to know how valuable the advice is (and then i check if it is still the correct advice in 2020)

Oooh Basil would be gooood... if he moderated you the message would be like getting chastised by a Dickensian professional.

"Dearest CC
I noted, with no small amount of horror, the message you have so recently (specifically the 24th of July 2020 at 3:04pm GMT) posted in response to the topic "OMG, we needz to stop all theese idots frum postin on urr cite", whereup you, for reasons I am sure made perfect sense to you at the time, but, alas, do not appear as apparent to me and my humble eyes, posted a reply that I shall now reproduce below:

constantly confused wrote:

"You wanna watch your [redacted] mouth or I'll [redacted] come over to [redacted] and [redacted] your [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] with a [redacted] [redacted] [redacted] then we'll [redacted] see who [redacted] [redacted] with a [redacted] up their [redacted] [redacted]!"

Please forgive the censorship but I did find your post rather distasteful and felt that the best thing to do is to move on with our days and never speak of this again. You have been suspended from posting for 48 hours.

The above notwithstanding I hope you and your family are well.

Kindest regards

Basil"
