Not a question - moving on

And what a PITA

Didn't find your answer?

So as some may recall, my plan has, for several months, been to move to S Wales.

On Friday, I walked out of the office for the last time. A bit of an anti-climax since the whole Covid-19 debacle meant half the staff were still working from home, and pubs are not really geared up for things like leaving events, so very understated.

Tomorrow, I make the move, and next Monday I start the new job.

Still have a carp load of stuff to pack up, but had my leaving the town event yesterday, and still feeling delicate.

May not have internet for a couple of days, so I'll see y'all on the other side.

Newport, so no. Having said that, only 15 minutes by train to Cardiff, so not too far away.

So, what you now need is soundtrack suggestions for the road trip.

Movin Out-Billy Joel
Already Gone-Eagles
2-4-6-8 Motorway-TRB (if you are driving)
East Bound and Down-Jerry Reed (but may be in wrong direction, you may be going West)

Edit-How could I forget

Moving On -Bad Company

What, of course, you do not want is;

Right Back Where We Started From-Maxine Nightingale

LOL - Very entertaining, but clearly before they built the new shopping centre (they have a Debenhams, now).

Having said that, a lot looks just the same, too (including, if I'm not mistaken, the same scaffolding).

In the current climate, that is impressive. Wetherspoons - less so.

"Newport, Newport, so good they named it twice." I'm going to visit if only to give that artiste a fiver, very witty.

Good luck with the move and the new job. Newport is often unfairly maligned, although if the clip is the one that I'm thinking of it is quite entertaining. Town centre is sometimes not great on a Friday night but there is some great countryside around.

If you fancy coming over to Rodney Parade to watch Newport RFC you'll be most welcome.

Newport is still a swear word in my house (Leeds fan).

Good luck with the move.

You may be better off paying the ferryman.

There used to be a ferryman to cross the Severn Estuary. As a child I found it exciting going on that ferry. In retrospect, it's clear the ferry was a deathtrap!

Saw an old programme showing that ferry recently.Would never be allowed now, but was probably minimal risk at the time. Looked very rickety.

Well,

I'm in Newport. All my stuff in boxes, and will be for a couple of weeks until Newhome is ready, but until then I'm staying with my better half. Fortunately, she has decent internet.

Tomorrow, I'll get my main PC set up (laptop at the moment), which should keep me going, and, of course, still the new job waiting on Monday.

It's been a long few days, so right now I'm ready for a beer.

Well, Stage 1 complete and got my PC set up and working. My Raspberry PIs fared less well, since the NFS drive that also housed the operating systems for them has bought it (only the filesystems, not the drive itself), and recovery software can't get them back, so guess I'll start again with those.

Fortunately, the movies and music stored on it were backed up to a samba share, which has survived.

Next move in probably a couple of weeks when the apartment is ready, but only a couple of miles and can be done piecemeal.

Oddly, no. Likely to be Trooper, which is weirdly brewed in Cheshire where I've moved from.

I love a weirdly-brewed beer. (I have a weird attraction towards the strange. Maybe makes me feel at home. Which I hope you will, BTW, and soon.)

Well I was going to be disappointed to say apparently the pub had a bit of a falling out with the brewery supplying Trooper, though I have to say that the stuff (I forget the name, or brewery) that they got instead is not half bad (hic!)
