Obligation to Report

Is there an obligation to make a SAR

Didn't find your answer?

Hello All

We had an engagement for payroll only for a company, but the company seemed to struggle and applied for striking off.  We never saw the accounts, nor evaluated turnover.  A friend or relative took over the business and started a new company and asked us to do payroll, so we had another payroll enagagement.

Now the same thing is happening again.  The company has asked to cease payroll, and a new company has been formed (connecting party as new director) and asked us to do payroll again.  I am slightly suspicious about the ongoings but as we only do payroll, and wiothout any hard evidence, is there an obligation to report?

What is it that you believe you may have an obligation to report?

Hi
The business hasn't filed a single years of accounts, and seems to flip companies. This leads me to think that there may be issues - but i have never seen their income and expenditure - and all they ever want from me is payroll.
I don't have enough information to make an informed decision, and am only required to look at the payroll administration.

I am not an expert but, to me, that sounds short of something that gives rise to an obligation to report. David Winch would give a more authoritative response.

Like Accountant A I don't think I can give you a definitive answer. But your obvious concern about this client's behaviour makes me wonder whether you are wise to continue acting. From what you say things don't look good, and besides anything else the rights of employees might be being abused. So personally, for the sake of a few quid for running a payroll I would resign.

I can see why you are uneasy, but from what you say I cannot see a reportable suspicion yet.
