Obtain authorisation to submit client's VAT return

Didn't find your answer?

I have a client who now wants me to file his VAT on my software, he previously was doing it through his own HMRC account. I have put in all the correct information but it fails every time. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Do you mean that you have obtained client's authorisation through your Agent Services Account (which is not the same account as your older Online account (where you see everyone's self-assessment, corp tax etc)) and it still doesn't work?

When you say fail, it might help if you gave us the actual error message

Authorisation in old gateway dfaults to last submitted vat return before mtd.

Easier wat to do it is to get client to add you via their gateway as agent - thye will ned to enter your agent gateway identifier (old gateway) to add you in.

Or you can do the apply via email from new asa acount they login and verify you.

Many thanks, now sorted. The problem was the password, which my colleague keeps changing without informing me.

There is a similar query on People on Hour. I don't know how anybody can bid as you have correctly identified the problem.

I see you posted on 7th but the guru, Jason, hasn't answered.
