Online PAYE account, problems with SMP Advance Funding

Online PAYE account, problems with SMP Advance...

Didn't find your answer?

I have been reconciling client's online PAYE accounts (I have access via their login + my own BETA account). Most ok but I have an incredibly similar problem with 3 out of 3 clients that have all claimed for SMP Advance Funding in the past.

In all cases their PAYE accounts are in credit by around £4,000 (approx the funding received). Which, ok looks like the fact that they received Advanced Funding wasn't recorded on their account - but not as simple as that.

In all case the funding crossed tax years. Let's say £4,000 for year 2014/15 and £1,000 for 2015/16. The funding for the later year shows on the client's online PAYE account (and contras nicely with my EPS reclaim submissions) and the funding for the earlier year does not. Always the same!

Now, have I made a consistent error or do HMRC Accounts Office have a wide spread problem (in relation to this issue!)?

Beta etc
I am finding the BETA system more of a hindrance than a help. Many of my clients have incorrect payments received showing despite them having sent right amounts.
When I did advance funding it seemed that it was like a completely separate entity.
If it were me, and I knew I had done the job correctly I would just ignore it until if and when you are contacted. Colleague of mine wasted half the morning today onto HMRC where she was told that the HMRC system was correct and what is showing was what had been paid despite her knowing different. She gave up.
It's all shambolic

I talked it through with the employer helpline who agreed with my figures. They suggested I ignore the the online figures which I accepted during the call. Afterwards I thought better of it and I have written to PAYE Accounts Office asking them to correct the figures showing on the clients / BETA online system. Why should I accept that those figures remain incorrect? And I already half expect to be processing similar SMP claims for some of same client's which will only further complicate matters.

BTW - thanks for picking up on this thread.

My experience

"do HMRC Accounts Office have a wide spread problem (in relation to this issue!)?"

Whenever the SMP spans tax years HMRC get it wrong.
