P11D and S336 claim

odd question from HMRC

Didn't find your answer?

Company submitted P11Ds, P11Db and S336 claims in time. No problems there.

Director has received a letter from HMRC saying that their records show that he had BiKs of say £1,200 and that he is claiming tax relief of say £600 being the amount in the S336 claim. They then ask him to confirm that that is the amount of S336 relief he is claiming.

Am I missing something?

My guess is that the company has submitted a s336 ITEPA claim. However it's not for the employer to do - this is a claim by the employee. It appears that HMRC are asking the individual if he wants to make the claim.
