P11D- Car parking paid via employer

If I pay for car parking via a salary deduction how should it show on my P11D?

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

Each month I have an amount deducted from my salary which is used to pay for a NCP season ticket for parking near my office. I’ve received a P11D from work, it has the amount I have paid for parking in the box “Gross amount or amount foregone”, but then in the next box “Amount made good or from which tax deducted” it says £0. So, in the box “cash equivalent or relevant amount”, it’s got the value from the first box. I queried this with my employer, as they don’t pay for the parking- I do. HR came back to me to say they have completed this form in the same way as they have for the other employees who have a season ticket for parking. Which doesn’t answer the question of whether it is correct or not. Does anyone here know? Looking at it, it seems like it’s suggesting that my employer paid for the parking- which they certainly did not. Thanks!

Is the deduction from gross pay or net pay (ie after tax and national insurance)?

If the former, which I assume to be the case, then the treatment is probably correct.

Is your gross pay the actual salaried amount or does it appear higher than it should be? Its possible that the benefit is deducted after tax and ni but I can't be certain.

However I'd have thought "amount made good" would reflect the amount deducted.

Only if the deduction is from net pay

Aaah- thank you! I’ve checked all payslips to my P60 and yes they deducted the car parking from my gross salary, so I can understand now why it’s on the P11D. Thanks both for the replies, I’m happy now to know I’m not going to pay tax twice!
