P46(car) are HMRC computers connected via string?

P46(car) are HMRC computers connected via string?

Didn't find your answer?

In my accounting life, I have limited need to deal with HMRC (lucky me..), but it does happen.

I submitted P46(car) for a new employee on 31st May, naively assuming I might get a tax code in time for June - what with the submission being online etc.

I presume this must get printed out on the worlds busiest laser printer, put in a basket, ready for someone else to type back in again. How else can it take so long for a new tax code?

Of course the employee will think I am a complete duffer when he underpays tax this month, and then over pays in future months..

I believe that you are correct that the electronically submitted forms are printed out & then passed to a separate team to deal with manually.

can't see any problems with MTD here, can you?

The move to 'dynamic coding' (reacting quickly via RTI to new information) was supposed to come by 31 May, but it was deferred until the end of July at the earliest. There will presumably be a backlog of updates once the new system launches, so don't hold your breath waiting for the revised code - there are not enough staff at HMRC to make the systems run smoothly, so those dealing with the P46(car) pile will be run off their feet.

You could get him to enter it via his personal tax account.... it updates the record instantly and changes the tax code within a couple of days. I did it for my partner last month, it was very impressive!
