panic attack!

Didn't find your answer?

i have applied for a utr number about a month ago but none issued yet.

am i better to leave in a paper return now (for which the deadline was 31 October last ) or wait for the utr number to issue and then file on line? (for which the deadline is 31/01/2012   (2/02/2012).

what penalties would apply in each case (£30 per day? and from when?)

also does the extension to 2 february apply to paper returns for which we had not received utr numbers to allow us to file on line

Thanks

That

and the glut of other similar questions recently.

If you do not have a UTR you cannot have been required to file a return, so until you are the filing penalties do not apply. The failure to notifypenalties will apply and are tax based.

So far as the filing penalty is concerned once HMRC have required you to make a return for 2010/11 you will now have three months from the date the notice to file was issued to do so. If you do not make it in that three months, then the filing penalties become relevant.

The 2 Feb extension is irrelevant to you if you have not had a notice to file issued before 31 Oct 2011
