PAYE codes 17-18 spate of 0T codes

I have started to receive an unusual number of 0T codes for 17-18 for people with no other jobs.

Didn't find your answer?

I have started to receive an unusual number of 0T tax codes for 17-18 for employees with no other employment. Having asked one employee to check his own version, that just seems to be showing no personal allowance due without any explanation. I have changed my payroll software so wondering whether that might be a cause but it hasnt happended to all. Is anyone else having the same experience or found a solution please?

Not exactly the same but similar, had one this morning & HMRC had doubled up the employments, employee checked their digital tax account which showed income as:-

Bloggs Limited (Current employer) £65,000
Bloggs Limited (Previous employer) £64,500

& PA removed completely.

Employee has only had one employment throughout (with Bloggs Limited).

With this in mind & the OP's question wondering if HMRC is 'doubling up' employments?

Could it be that, with changing payroll software, HMRC are now seeing two 'employments' with separate reference numbers from the RTI submission?

Likely to be change of software, we've been caught out with new clients, needing to make sure that the our payroll people use the same references as the previous accountant to avoid doubling up.

Getting this too.

Can you confirm that this is affected just employees in the higher earnings bracket?

Happened for 3 of my employees recently. Though I've not checked on anyone else (who happened to be basic rate earners)

Agents were previously doing payroll for last few years. This year was brought in house and processed on brightpay. Can understand using the same payroll id if changed mid-season but this was at the start.

Thanks for the replies so far. This is affecting employees on low earnings and not everyone on each company payroll. One employee has managed to get through to HMRC and have his code changed back to 1150L but he didn't let me know exactly what he was told by HMRC regarding the reason for the wrong code. Also to clarify, the change of payroll software was at the beginning of the 2017-18 tax year.
