I have attempeted the usual HMRC online authorisation for a payroll client. The details go through but a couple of hours later I get an email:
You have recently completed an online authorisation request for your client, XXXXXX, for the PAYE service. Unfortunately, the details you entered do not match our records for that client.
Please check with your client that these details are correct.
If they are, please ask your client to contact HMRC to ensure that our records are updated.
Once this has been done, please return to the online service and request a reissue of the authorisation code.
Exceptionally, we may not have an Agent address for you.
If this is the case, please contact HMRC and then request a reissue of the authorisation code.
I have done this many times before with no problems so the Agent address issue seems unlikley. The only details entered are employers PAYE Refence number and accounts office reference so I don understand how these can be successfully submitted and then rejected Unfortunately, the details you entered do not match our records for that client.
Can anyone advise on how to proceed?
