Payment Pending after 10 Days??

Didn't find your answer?

hi, i submitted my self assessment on the 07/04, i then checked my account and requested a repayment into my bank account, as from the 11/04 to now it's still payment pending? is this normal as it's been 10 working days? the past 2 years iv used an accountant and has my payment within 5 days? but this year iv done it myself, usually iv done it may/june time but this year got it in straaight away, could it just be the fact HMRC are busy??

It could be that the repayment has been selected for security checks. Is the repayment larger than usual this year? I'd see if it's in your bank on Monday and, if not, give HMRC a call.

There is nothing particularly unusual about waiting 10 days. In my experience it can take up to 6 weeks to process a repayment, and given the issues with calculation errors this year it would not surprise me if HMRC were running extra checks to ensure the amounts are correct where returns were not submitted by agents. There are probably hundreds of thousands of returns in the queue to be processed at this time of year and some will take longer than others. HMRC are not renowned for their efficiency. In short, there is probably nothing you can do except wait.
