Merit should deal with this easily.

Believe Brightpay can cater for unlimited employees. Also have a bureau package, so can be used for other clients if you are looking for a potential replacement for Moneysoft

Two suggestions:
1. Ask Moneysoft if they would very kindly remove the 250 employee limit as a special favour to a long-standing and loyal customer, or
2. Run the payroll as 2 (or 3 or more) separate companies of up to 250 employees each. HMRC is quite happy to receive multiple FPSs for the same PAYE reference - just make sure that you put all the SMP (& SPP) employees on the same "company" and only file EPSs from that company because EPSs report YTD figures and if you file them from different companies the latest one will overwrite the figures submitted previously from another company.

That said, I think that Moneysoft (and BrightPay) are intended for use by smaller employers and it might be better to go for software aimed at larger employers.

I agree that it might be better for go for software designed to cope with larger numbers of employees, and that would rule out Brightpay/Moneysoft.
I've found the higher the number of employees I have on each payroll, the higher the number of complicated adjustments I need to make. Both Brightpay and Moneysoft have some way to go before they have all the options that you'd probably need - in an easy to use format.
Oh dear - I think you're probably lumbered with Iris.

I tend to avoid Iris and Sage at all cost. We use BrightPay for our bureau service and we recommend it to our clients doing payroll in-house. As @Moonbeam and @Euan MacLennan mentioned, it is aimed at the SME as is Moneysoft however BrightPay allows for unlimited employees so it might be worth a mention to your client. The 60 day free trial will allow them to try it out before making purchase. They have nothing to lose but everything to gain if it works for them because BrightPay like Moneysoft is a fraction of the cost of Iris or Sage.
Best of luck!
