Payroll software

options for a single payroll with 12+ employees

Didn't find your answer?

Search AccountingWEB

I have looked in the archives, but there does not seem to be anything recent on this subject.

I am looking for an economical but effective Payroll software programme , either desktop or cloud based, for a small business with between 12 and 15 employees. It needs to cope with not only RTI but also AE . Many of the employees earn well below the limits for AE, but there are 2, sometimes 3 , who are into this. To add to the joy of running this payroll, there is quite a turnover of staff at the lower end as they are mainly teenagers who work only few hours a week  and go off to Uni, or decide it's not for them.

Brightpay is one that seems to be recommended in the past . Payroo 's support team does not come out that well but maybe that's now changed. Qtac is good, but quite  expensive for her.  I would rather avoid Sage/ Iris.

Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved. If you need more information, please ask.

Many thanks

Brightpay and Moneysoft will both handle this with ease, and both are economical.

I suppose it comes down to preference of the way they work, then (I've never used Brightpay, but find Moneysoft a breeze).

Moneysoft for me, but agree Brightpay always gets lots of recommendations as well.

Moneysoft gets my vote

I use Moneysoft and am very happy with it but Brightpay's well recommended.

The others appear to be also-rans.

I would certainly recommend BrightPay. It is very intuitive at handling Auto Enrolment, producing all necessary communications and prompts the user when it detects that anything AE-wise is required. It also links in directly to NEST and has a host of other pre-loaded pension provider templates setup.

I can't believe you didn't find 1/2 million recommendations for Moneysoft!

You have two options - Brightpay or Moneysoft. Both come highly recommended, are very reasonably priced and can do everything you require and more.
I use Brightpay and find it great. It is very easy to use, it handles AE with ease and support is excellent.

BrightPay vs Moneysoft has been debated long and hard on Aweb. In terms of recommendations they are pretty much neck and neck but for me BrightPay has a slight edge over Moneysoft for auto enrolment and support.

If I was looking for a new software, I might choose Brightpay over Moneysoft because it (reputedly) handles AE better. But that's not enough to make me change from Moneysoft.

There were two main issues with Brightpay that prevented me from moving. Cant for the life of me recall what one of those was now, but the CIS module was certainly one of them. Not sure if they have sorted that aspect - there were promises to do so, but on the basis I didnt have to wait for Moneysoft to sort anything I stayed with them.

Brightpay works very well in all of the situations that I have encountered as a payroll Bureau and their Support is second to none so I would highly recommend them.

Brightpay is superb. I use it is small bureau with clients straddling s broad spectrum but I have recently trained 2 small firms who do do their own weekly payroll. They got to grips with both the payroll and AE aspect quickly.
One of my clients has youngsters coming and going in the restaurant trade.Brighpay flags up each time AE action is required and with the click of a button pre populates the correct letter to be sent
It links with NEST making the whole AE process that more slick.
In my opinion the price for what you get is excellent

I too would go with BrightPay. I moved from Payroo due to BrightPay's brilliant handling of AE. Support and the staff in general seem to be great. I also use it for CIS. You really can't go wrong with it.

We changed to Brightpay 2 years ago - they are great - support brilliant.

If it does not do something you think you want it to do - let them know - we have and some on the changes they have introduced are what we asked for.

We have never looked back since moving our payroll to them.

Another thumbs up for Brightpay - they have a Mac version of the software which is excellent (for those Mac based practices)

It has to be Moneysoft. When RTI started, I had several weekly payrolls which I used to run on a 4-weekly basis. As a two man family business, we do not have the resources to run weekly payrolls and while two went monthly, I was able to persuade the other three to take over the payrolls themselves, with support from me. I now have a hairdresser, village stores and fish & chip shop running weekly payrolls, including AE, with minimal input from me.

There are a lot of discussions on here about the best payroll software. It can seem like a tennis rally between Moneysoft and Bright pay but there’s no doubt both come up on top time and time again. Most would agree, avoid the big guys like Sage & Iris.

I use and love Bright pay because AE is automated and the interface is easier to navigate when I compared both products. It can handle EYUs if any mistakes are made in a previous tax year which I don’t think Moneysoft can do. As far as I can remember both products have free trials? Get a demo or run them side by side and you’ll know very quickly which one is for you.

I did a quick search on AW and here are the results for Bright pay. When you are searching you need to select the any answers section on the right, otherwise you can only see the recent Bright pay blogs.

Moneysoft, it integrates extremely well with NEST (for enrolment, contributions and approval for payment).

Hi
We've been using Moneysoft for the last 2 tax yrs having previously used Iris.

It doesn't have all th bells and whistles of Iris but then for the 15 or so clients we do the payrolls for we don't need them.

My wife who does the payroll work was very reluctant to change but very pleased we did and only wished we change much sooner, easy to use and al lot lot cheaper too

Both Brightpay and Moneysoft can be run on a trial basis. I tried them both and would recommend you do the same.

In case you are wondering, I found Moneysoft suited me best. 18 months after leaving Sage behind, I have no regrets.
