Potential error claiming Employment Allowance

What action do I need to take re potential error claiming Employment Allowance

Didn't find your answer?

I received a generic notice from HMRC to check employment allowance eligibility, upon checking I believe I may be incorrectly claiming for 19/20 since do not meet the criteria.  I have unchecked the tick box in the HMRC Basic PAYE Tool, submitted the associated EPS, and made a further payment for the unpaid YTD employer NI (April to Jan) - however this was after my FPS submission for Jan.  Can anyone kindly advise if this will automatically update my PAYE account, or any further action is required to ensure my PAYE account reconciles.  Thanks in advance.

Its all in the lap of the Gods here. Have had similar. It should balance out. Especially as it is in the current year. I would take it as fine - if a problem arises you should hear from HMRC.
Just as an add on I had one that went back three tax years and when the NIC was paid it was allocated to the right years there

Thanks for the response. I will Check HMRC later this month and hopefully 19/20 will be OK. I have since discovered similar issue with previous year. Can I check how you corrected previous years please? If I uncheck the employment allowance box in the HMRC Basic PAYE Tool for previous year, submit a corresponding EPS, and pay NI, do you think that will be sufficient? And I am likely to incur interest and/or penalties? Thanks

On a slightly different tack I got many of these advisory emails, which made me panic a bit, thinking I'd incorrectly claimed. However when I looked into it I think all were groundless. They were one or two director companies being paid at NI threshold, but with one or two employees that all complied with the rules - my own practice of three staff included.

Hi, I also had the same thing, having checked our HMR&C dashboard recently, it has righted itself and left us with a balance to pay which I did on the last P32 payment. If you have access, give it a few days/week and check your HMR&C account. It should be clear then.
