Problems requesting authorisation codes for VAT

Is anyone else having problems requesting agent authorisation codes for VAT? I've tried a few recently where the information entered is correct, but the system says the information doesn't match their records.

Yes this is becoming increasingly common. Previously we'd have got round this with a paper 64-8 but as these no longer authorise you to submit VAT returns online these have at least allowed us to speak to HMRC to confirm the correct details needed for the online authorisation although not always with 100% success.

default is last vat return prior to mtd - that may be n/a 0 if all returns submitted mtd.
So best guess would be returns around mar/apr/may 2019 if clients went on mtd when mandated and no earlier.

We have had couple not work but most still do when that info has been entered

Backup plan is for cleint to add you in as agent via their gateway.

We got our agent ID entered into the clients own Govt Gateway and that worked straight away.

I agree that this seems to be the case and this was after discussion with a very helpful vat officer. It’s worked on a couple of my cases

I think you need to do it through the agent services account now, it will give you a li k to send to the client - they will then need their gateway login details to approve
