Problems with HMRC online agent authorisation

Two requests for authorisation codes on the HMRC Authorise Client & system says data is incorrect

Didn't find your answer?

This morning I've tried to submit two requests for authorisation codes on the HMRC Authorise Client system - one a SA case and the other a CT case. In both cases they have failed at the first hurdle - the system says some of the information provided is incorrect.

In the SA case I've taken the UTR, NI No & postcode from the prior year SA Return that was submitted by the previous accountant & accepted electonically so I assume the data is correct.

In the CT case again I've taken the UTR & Registration number from the prior year CT Return that was submitted by the previous accountant & accepted electonically.

Has anyone else had this problem?

For the SA case you only need the UTR and post code - if you put the NINO in as well your application will fail. It's badly worded on HMRC's website and suggests you could put all three items in. Similarly for the CT case - just put the CT reference and the RO post code. That should work.

I don't put the NINO in on the SA cases as have found this can mess up the registration.

Thanks that seems to have solved it. I'm sure I've put them all in in the past, perhaps the system is having a bad day!

When it says "Plus at least one of the next three pieces of information" it actually means "only one of the next three"

I did a self assessment one this morning, included UTR and NINO and it went fine.

Agree with most of replies above - just put two bits of information in until you find a combination that works.

It's a crazy system.
