Pros and cons of buying land Ltd co or personally?

Didn't find your answer?

We currently rent a presmises where our office and production takes place. We are shortly going to buy a piece of land and then build a unit on it for the office and production to run out of.
The question is this better doing all through the Ltd company or personally? Currently thinking buying the land personally and building the unit through the company. Looking for pros and cons of it all to help us understand better.
The land is currently farm land with an existing barn on it. Which will be removed to place the new workshop on. The company is 1 director shareholder.

Best advice is probably to talk it through with your current accountant. You will not get the detailed and tailored advice you need with such limited information.

For the investment you are planning on making, some specific paid for advice is a small cost in the overall plan to make sure it suits your specific circumstances.

We will do, we just wanted general exam style pros and cons to assist us in our discussions to get more views in case we’ve missed anything

Where are the funds to come from is often a good starting point.

That doesn't answer the question.

Loans from a bank would have different implications to loans from shareholders or related companies.

This project will require detailed and careful planning, with you providing formal instructions, to whomever you ask to provide you with professional advice.

In thinking that you can obtain detailed and involved advice via, what is after all, social media, you are clearly naive. I don't intend to be rude, or disrespectful. I'm merely offering sound advice.

I wasn’t expecting a full blown advice, just general pros and cons of buying land personally or in a Ltd company to discuss as we’ve already looked and just wanted more views. Sorry that wasn’t right to do.

That old chestnut.

Your tagging suggests otherwise.

But best way to get several views is to pay for a second opinion, once you have the first, assuming you don’t trust the first.

I'd be really cautious about building a building on someone else's land.

If you've funds in a pension (SIPP) it could purchase land and complete build.
Top up with further director pension contributions if required.
