Pros and cons of MS Dynamics 365 software please

Am looking for advice from accountants who have used or have clients who have used this software

Didn't find your answer?

Does anyone have knowledge of MS Dynamics 365 software and its advantages/disadvantages please? We have a client who needs a fully integrated accounting, warehousing and product management system. Their current software provider is withdrawing support after many years of use.

Absolutely. I strongly recommend SAP Business One.

Are you and/or client looking at answers before you've defined the question?

Start by defining the business - both now and future aspirations.
- Are you just buying and selling - or is there any value add?
- how do you deal with colour/size/etc variations?
- Do you need lot control or strict rotation
- How many stockholding locations?
- Any non-UK locations
- UK only or imports/exports?
- Do you sell online?

etc

If you don't define your requirements, you might waste a lot of time and money to select and implement a system that doesn't meet your business needs.

I'm very much agree with Paul. It's only really possible to answer the original question in the context of the requirements.

In addition to the features that are required, I'd want to know how sophisticated the business is. If the business is owner managed with just a bookkeeper in house then its natural home is Sage 50 / Xero and similar, if it's professionally managed including an in house qualified accountant then its natural home is likely to start at Microsoft Dynamics / Sage 200 and upwards. Not a hard and fast rule, but different accounts products have different core audiences.

Are there any other Dynamics users out there who can speak up for any of its good points (like Office 365 integration and links to CRM)?

The range has been around for years and both the GP and NAV variants had their adherents in the old days - particularly for the flexible reporting that came from the Navision family.

Did any of that DNA survive the migration to the cloud platform? It would be great to hear from the Dynamics community again on AccountingWEB, so don't be shy!

We are still using Dynamics GP and have done since around 2000.
With hindsight I don't believe it was the best solution for the job and in the early days its grasp of the workings of VAT were tenuous. It has improved over the years but I'm still not keen on the ad-hoc way VAT processing is dealt with, partcularly reverse charge. Nevertheless we are heavily committed to it, having many in-house bespoke applications built around and integrating with it.
If I had my time again I think we'd probably go for something else and, as mentioned by an earlier respondent, specify the requirements better in the first place.
This does not really answer the original question about the 365 version as I have no experience of that but, perhaps, sounds a note of caution before leaping in.
