QUICK BOOKS QUERY

Common usage of minuses

Didn't find your answer?

I used to assume that a minus in front of a figure indicated a credit. This appears not to be so with QB where I have an Accrual account that is shown as a debit in the TB but when analysed has a minus in front of the account totals

It's been a long day and I'm probably talking *******s but there it is

Quickbooks tries to be friendly to the non-accountants out there.

It has accounts which are normally debit and normally credit. Creditor accounts are normally credit so a debit balance will show as negative.

Back in the 1970s and 80s early IBM GSD computer systems automatically converted a negative number to a credit.
