QuickBooks Online

QuickBooks Online

Didn't find your answer?

We have a new client who is migrating from Kashflow to QuickBooks Online. (They were going to use Brightpearl but there seems to be an issue integrating with eBay.)

I have worked through the QB Online self study course and it looks quite impressive but I notice there are few comments on AW about the online version. Has anyone had any problems with QB Online and the accountants version?

I've used it and it's nicely implemented and you can pretty much configure the reports/nominal structure as you want which I like. The main niggles I've come across are:

- An inability to connect to Barclays Business Banking for direct data downloads (for some reason it can connect to the Barclays Personal portal but not business accounts).

- Very limited data IMPORT facilties (eg. my client uses a bespoke invoicing service which sends out around 80 invoices per month to his customers. This can be pushed out as a CSV file which we can import into Sage (and funnily, enough, QB desktop edition), but there's no way of importing this into QB Online.

- Poor support from overseas call centres. There doesn't seem to be a depth of knowledge amongst the support staff, and many queries/requests are simply fobbed off as "not available, or in development" with no known timeline (the data import thing above has been "in development" since my client first switched to QB Online 20 months ago).

It's a good product, with a nice interface but it could be better.

Hi Dave and SoL

Great to hear that you're considering QBO, The Videos will help to get a good insight of the product. I also recommend you take a free trial if you like to play with the product.

Ill try to answer a few of the points above, Thank you Sol for the feedback here,

Barclays Bank: We do connect to Barclays Business and Personal via the auto bank feeds, If you have any issues with your connection the Support Team will be able to arrange a call back with our Bank Feeds engineer to get that fixed.

With Barclays Business, you can also download the statement in CSV or in .OFX format. In QuickBooks Online (QBO) you get the option of 1) Auto connection 2) CSV upload 3) .OFX upload.

Data Import: SoL you're spot on here, this is something I'm very passionate about, imagine the brilliant pricing and the product that is QBO without the ability to import Transactional data in to QBO!, good thing is, we are actually VERY close to getting this sorted (next few months - at latest), Send me a direct message if you're interested in being in the BETA for the tool we are creating.

In addition to the above, you have Free payroll for some of your small clients (up to 5 employees) with PaySuite which Intuit covers the cost for, Its a great integration where the look, feel and data movement all happens in a seamless manner.

Support Team: We have listened and we have reacted, so far we have quite a sizable number of staff supporting QBO in London Victoria, just in the last 2-3 weeks we have recruited 9-10 more QBO service staff, nearly doubling the number of Care Agents in our London Office. We have been careful in the quality of staff we recruit hence we have actively targeted AAT , ACCA foundation completed reps who want a long term career with Intuit.

I also recommend you take the Free QBO certification either via Webinar or Face to Face with our lovely trainers to get some hands on training with QBO

Cheers all the best, get in contact with your account manager if you want to find out more info around QBO,

Have to agree

After looking at QB online last year and being very unimpressed, I too have recently done their course and become certified and was far more impressed as the latest update is far better and well on it's way to being a strong contender, especially with the reports.

Unfortunately, I too, have experienced very poor support when I've been trying to sort out problems and queries.  The support staff I've been dealing with don't really seem to have a clue.  Sadly, reminds me of the QB2010 VAT fiasco when the support staff were equally as clueless.

I've been unable to access my own data file since joining the QB accountant program, and despite the help of the regional UK QBO rep, it's still not solved, which after a few weeks, isn't acceptable.

I'm on the fence whether to start recommending to clients.  On one side, the program itself looks good, but on the other, I fear that poor support may kill it before it gets going.

Hi Philip,

Can you DM me your details, being unable to access your own file seems strange, I'll get this looked at for you,

Cheers, Bobby

I'd love to, but I can't

I'd love to, but you seem to have private messages turned off as the option to send one to you isn't there on your profile screen!

Re my problem, yes' it's strange.  So strange that it's taking weeks for QB support to sort it out, and that I'm constantly having to chase QB as I've never yet had an update, only vague promises to "sort it out today", only to not hear anything again until I email again, and again!  I eventually brought in your regional rep to try to help, but it seems he's having similar problems getting a response from your support.

Not Impressed.
I would be a lot more impressed with Intuit if their response to a technical query did not contain the comment "Imagine the brilliant pricing and the product that is QBO" and if the English was a bit better. Also, have they recruited 9 new people or 10? If they don't know, how can we believe their claims?

apologies and I must respectfully retire from this conversation

Hi Chatman,

Apologies if my comment offended you, I was purely adding to the fact that we as of now do not have an import tool for transactions even though we have brilliant pricing.

Regarding the 9-10 new care agents, as with any recruitment drive, at times people who start a new job may have delays in their recruitment due to work period notices. Initially there will be 9 new employees with the additional 1 once he's worked his full notice period from his previous employer.

I must now respectfully retire from this conversation before it starts to heat,

Thank you,

Bobby Chadha

As a Quickbooks user for over 8 years I would recommend using Quickbooks hosed in the cloud. It is way more convenient than Quickbooks Desktop and online, you can say its a blend of best of both. I tried different cloud provider and ended my hunt on www.techarex.net. Its been 2 years now and haven't faced any problems. I love the way my Quickbooks Pro Desktop works now and I also like the way they address my Quickbooks technical and accounting queries for free everytime.
