Random hmrc emails regarding notices

Do any AWebbers get random hmrc emails asking to check notices online

Didn't find your answer?

Had a couple of these now. One today asking me to login to cis and check for notices issued.

I don't have any authorised cis clients and so there's no option to check for notices.

I also checked paye and nope.

Anyone else get these random emails? Or is there some special link to check a notice for cis?

Yes, I often receive these for "PAYE notices". When I go online to my agent PAYE account, there are never any PAYE notices to display, and I still receive PAYE notices in the post in any case. It's really odd, and makes me worry that I have missed something important.

Yes, get these as well.

Also when a notice does exist often get say '4' underlined. Click on the '4' and there's only one notice to be found.

Another HMRC system not fit for purpose.

Think they are now issuing notices for 21/22 so you may be looking at the wrong year?

Shouldn't be getting any at all, all mine are set up for paper! Paper seems to be a much more reliable and easier to use system.

I get two of the same email. Where the message will be in my agent account is where the fun starts. HMRC give instructions on where it is, but it's never there. Now I just click until I find one, I'm grateful if I do.
I'd like to send one back saying 'I've just posted a payment to you - when/what the payment is for, how much I posted and even if I am telling the truth, is your task for today. Tip, the account I sent it from may/may not, end in a number between 1 and 10 but IS eight digits long and the sort code, six digits long.'

I get these phantom notifications too. I've learned to ignore them.

I know to wait 2 days before asking my payroll software to poll for these.

There's usually a day or two delay between receiving the email and the notices appearing on the online system.

Also, check the year, as HMRC are currently sending out 21/22 PAYE code notices, but their system defaults to current year, so you need to change the year to see if there are any for 21/22.

I tend to ignore the emails and have a diary reminder to check for new code notices every week, which means I'm less likely to miss any.

As others have mentioned, the notices are probably for next tax year. When you log in it will likely default to the current tax year. When I logged on yesterday I only had 10 new notifications, however, when I changed the tax year to 2021/22 I had over 50 :(

I get a CIS Generic Notice notifcation email every month. Yet there's never any there when I log in and I have to go through each CIS client just in case. Pain in the a$$

Also every time there's a PAYE notification I get them in duplicate.

I'd rather HMRC concentrate on getting current systems working before embarking on their MTD folly
