Recommendation for Accounting Package for SME

Does anyone have any recommendations for a non cloud multi-user accounts package for an SME?

Didn't find your answer?

This is for a small manufacturer that are currently using an old copy Sage (circa 2003).

This is needed for entering sales/purchases, producing invoices (printed and by email), bank reconciliations, VAT returns etc. (normal POS stuff). Doesn't need to have any specific catering for manufacture.

Preferably looking for a locally hosted solution, preferably with an rdbms backend. But access to data (via odbc/jdbc/DBI etc.) is essential as is MTD compliance.

TIA for any recommendations.

ODBC is good too.

If I had the v latest version, it would do MTD.

If it is only for Accounting and not manufacturing, Sage 50 may be sufficient.
If your existing system is Sage 50, it may be possible to migrate from a very old version - but via one or more intermediate versions.
The latest Sage 50 doesn't have to be cloud based - you can stay on a local database. It is on a subscription basis now though, which you may not want.
I suggest that you summarise you mandatory requirements first.

QuickBooks desktop continues to be a good solution. It is MTD compliant and based on an SQL database which can be accessed by third party software or write your own using their SDK. Has stock control which includes building products from components (build not just groups although it will do groups too). Up 5 users.
