Recommendations for book keeping software

Can I have recommendations for small business book keeping software?

Didn't find your answer?

Until recently if I have needed to do any book keeping for my private clients - all small and some tax only - I have been able to use a spreadsheet or reports from client software. The entries have been minimal e.g. 1-2 invoices a month and some expenses.  I use Taxfiler for accounts preparation and tax returns.  I am now looking to pick up book keeping software for my small clients who are going to need to be VAT registered shortly and so will need to report under MTD.

Does anyone have any recommendations?  Are Quickbooks, Pandle or Bokio going to suit my needs or is there other software I should be reviewing?

When my clients who operated manual bookkeeping needed another solution because of MTD, I converted them all to QuickBooks. All have coped well with it, and submit their own MTD VAT returns no bother.
Obviously I had to do a little training with them, and set up the accounts to fit in with their existing headings, but it was all straight forward.
You can access QuickBooks support by phone or email, and the support has been very good. Not all softwares provide telephone support, but it was important to me.

For cloud Pandle will work fine.
For non cloud VT Transaction Plus.

VT Software ticks many of the boxes, which you would probably need. Very sensibly priced and excellent support, from my experience

I use Quickfile for my own bookkeeping, it's MTD compliant and would be free for the amount of transactions you've noted.

Also, can't fault VT for bookkeeping and filing VAT returns.

Excel cashbooks mapped via TaxCalc work okay for MTD vis a vis "untouched by human hands" submission.

Whether my use of it records all individual transactions correctly re their required MTD disclosure, especially payments made via the company credit card , are however a moot point.
