Hi,
I've been working in a small practice for a few years. I've passed all my exams some time ago, is there any decent books for tax that you guys recommend? (Mainly because the clients I dealt with are micro entities and doing corp tax, VAT all the time). I came across some clients asking stuff about CGT, IHT and I kind of forgotten everything. Is there a decent tax book covers everything?
thanks

Think the short answer is “no” if you mean reference books to use in providing advice to clients.
I’m not sure how many small practice accountants feel confident to advise on IHT.
These were referred to recently:

Tolley's Tax Guide gives you a basic guide to most issues arising in a small practice.
I use Mr Google. I find it funny how clients ask you what they could easily Google themselves. I search as many articles as I can until I am satisfied I am correct. Funnily enough some AWeb answers aren't correct!
Oooh, a heretic ... I haven't eaten one of those for awhile!
[With a nod to whoever it was called me a troll on a different thread] :=)
Funnily enough nor are Google (or Wiki or whatever) always correct - and quite often, if less humorously, neither are HMRC or GOV.UK
But then again, some clients' definition of 'correct' relates to what they can 'get away with' (rather than factual legislation) - particularly with regard to tax.
If you find the "covers everything" book best you buy a few copies - there will be a few takers on here, me included.
Before this forum became another ukbusinessforum I used to learn a lot on here so do a search or feel free to ask.
Hi
Have a look at the taxcafe book range, I find these really useful.
Peter Rayney’s book on owner managed businesses tax issues covers almost everything you’ll need.
Tax Insider do a number of good Newsletters and books as do Claritax
