Recommended multi function printer and scanner

What multi function copier, printer and scanner do you recommend.

Didn't find your answer?

We have a network multi function Sharp copier used by eight of us in the office. It's five years old, does up to A3 colour and scans and copies. Specifications say speed is 26 copies per minute and warm up time 20 seconds.

It will go out of service contract next month and we are looking at alternatives. Any recommendations please?

Our thoughts on the current machine is that printing has been fine and speed is acceptable, copying fine also and scanning is OK and we can use bar code sheets to separate batch scanned documents, which works. We don't use it for faxing and the main gripe with the machine would be a very slow and clumsy touch screen control, especially compared with a smartphone or iPad.

Scanning is probably the priority for a new machine, it's increasingly necessary to have a really quick and effective scanning function for scanning varying sized invoices and receipts, as well as post etc.

Any recommendations please?

Thank you.

OKI have a really reliable range of multi-functioning printers. They also offer managed print to keep control of ongoing costs. We have also purchased our printers due to low volume of printing. Scanning options are varied and have found them to be quick.

Depends what you are prepared to pay.

We use a secondhand Samsung Ineo develop 2480 it cost £1500 plus vat and we have a monthly contract at £30 per month with 4 hour response time on breakdowns.

We upgraded last year and would do it agin. Speed for scanning and printing and copying is great

If there are 8 of you in the office, why is a single machine capable of multiple functions the priority? The best scanner around (as recommended on numerous sites for many years) is probably the Fujitsu ScanSnap iX500. As for printing, how much is needed these days? I hardly ever print anything. You can get laserjet B&W printers eg Brother HL-2250DN or its modern equivalent for about £70-£90, that are so cheap that each person can have their own (or between 2 or 3 staff) to save queuing. Then get one heavy duty colour laser for the whole office, for those times that you need to print something special for a client which will cost a few hundred quid. But the days of leasing a machine worth thousands have surely long gone?

We used to have several smaller colour laser printers dotted around the office but the collective toner cost per month was unbelievable. And the print quality was always variable.

Last year we went for a lease arrangement with a Sharp standalone multi function printer/copier/scanner. We pay a monthly instalment that is less than what we spent on toner ourselves (excess of £300 p/m).
Any other repairs and maintenance are included as part of the package. The quality of the print is brilliant and consistent. We have not replaced one toner yet in 6 months - also probably because we can now scan many more documents for onward email, whereas previously we printed or copied first.
Colleagues are especially delighted with the scan to email function so everyone can use it to scan documents directly. It seems to scan both sides of a page simultaneously when required. It is fast and we are thrilled.
It has a touch screen about the size of an ipad tablet, but there is also a pullout keyboard.
It also seems to offer document or image cropping features and more, but we have not used that yet.
Main thing is it is fast to print and scan as well as having an excellent document feeder. There is an OCR feature too but the company is not ready for the fuller paperless office just yet so we have not explored that properly. (legacy issues).
Other companies probably provide a similar service or product. But we are happy with ours.
Downside is that it is a 5 year contract. But they guarantee the print quality, and service has a 4 hour response SLA, so I like to think this device will be maintained accordingly and continue to perform well for the 5 years otherwise they will replace.
