Registering a new client for SA

Online application not actioned

Didn't find your answer?

I applied online to register a new client for self assessment (CGT owing for 2017/18). 10 weeks later, nothing.....The agent helpline suggested I register as agent, then apply by telephone. Can't do this online, UTR required for that. Could get elderly client to telephone, but likely to be a frustrating experience. Faith in online fading somewhat. Anyone have similar experiences?  I suppose it's back to sending a paper 64-8

Was it actually an online application or via the structured e-mail SA1? https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/shortforms/form/SA1

I'm not sure of the difference. I did it online, the tag at the bottom of the pdf I took of my application includes shortforms/form/SA1?dept.

Yep you used the shortform / structured e-mail. That used to work brilliantly with no problems at all. From about mid 2017 never worked again for me. Multiple applications, none successful.

Best now to log into your online agent's account & register the client there nowadays.

Thanks for that, Wanderer. I just did that, felt (slightly) bad because it is seemingly aimed at sole traders, and doesn't mention registering a client for personal tax. Still, for nature of self-employment, the answer is' not working'. Goodness knows how long this will take!
