Registering client for self assessment/partnership

How long do HMRC need to take

Didn't find your answer?

Not sure if I am being singled out for special treatment, but HMRC seem to be taking forever to register client's for self assessment (via agent account: register a client for new taxes).

A new partnership submitted on 17th November 2020 for which the client received their UTR letter on 25th February 2021.

A self assessment request submitted on 3rd February 2021 for which I received the HMRC confirmation email today.

Interested in other member's recent experience here. Is this the new normal?

It's almost like they don't want "customers" to be taxpayers.

Maybe that's what was behind the change of name.

In my experience it usually takes between two weeks and seven months.

A client of ours registered for a UTR in the last week of January 2021. He chased it up and has been told he will receive it sometime between 7th and 14th May!!

Totally unacceptable.

We are waiting on a dozen or so ..... very frustrating.
Normally, I would say it is worth a call as sometimes they seem to set things up at their end and then not advise anyone. First thing you know about it is the penalty notice. But whether you will get anywhere on the phone just now, I don't know.

I was going to check the three replies already offered before I commented, but instead I get;

"AccountingWEB Error
The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later. "

Have SIFT engaged HMRC to run the forums?

What is weird is that new VAT registrations *normally* go through in a couple of days so one wonders why the SA guys at HMRC are so rubbish. Are they from a different gene pool?

Same issue here. Registered a partnership online in September, got the UTR last week in January. Took 3 attempts at registration mind using online, post and carrier pigeon so I’m expecting more letters!
