Relief for french prevelement de solidarite

Relief for french prevelement de solidarite against UK CGT

Didn't find your answer?

Can the french solidarity tax (prevelement de solidarite) deducted on the sale of a french property (in Juily 2021) by a UK tax resident be offset against UK CGT?

In the past I believe this used to be called a social charge (prevelement sociaux) and as it was deemed by HMRC to be a social charge rather than a tax it could not be offset against UK CGT. However after an EU ruling in 2018/19 my understanding is that this is no longer deemed to be a social charge so I wonder now whether this solidarity tax deducted in France can be offset against UK CGT? Can't find a definitive ruling on this; maybe too early?

Search for Rebecca Bennyworth's Brexit article re French property - it sets out what can and can't be claimed
