Rented house Tax on disability

I have just rented house to a disabled lady. Lots of things were changed to accomodate her

Didn't find your answer?

I am a pensioner who has rented out a home for past 10myears ,my accountant has passed and i cannot get through to IR 9 phone calls .I am required to fill in tax return 2019/2020 my accountant taught me how to record income and expenditure and also replacement items so i have a record . However the new tenant has a disabled daughter (in a wheel chair) So before they moved in the required Ramps at all doors ,Showers lowered and locks lowered plus Stair lift and 2 doors converted to sliding, Total £3000 all new. Can this sum be legitimately sett against rent received ? With thanks

Sadly not. The council might have either carried out some of the work or provided grants but obviously that's a bit late to explore.

Looking at the link you've provided the OP may still be able to make an application.

I'm curious as to why you say these costs cannot be claimed? On the facts supplied I would say that at least some of these costs could be offset.

To the OP, I'd suggest getting another accountant and going through everything with them. It's not a small amount of money and it would be a shame to miss out on legitimate relief.

Didn't think much sounded like a repair or renewal. Might help the OP if you indicated which costs you think he might be able to claim.
