A new client had invested £30000 in The Resort Group PLC and is having trouble receiving the promised monthly income

The whole organistaion seems to very convoluted with numerous cross shareholdings in the UK and abroad. It's activity is advertised as the construction of hotels and a holiday resort in the Cape Verde islands

Ha sanyone had any experience of dealing with this bunch ?

The client is an elderly lady who reacted to a phone call promising good returns and didn't take any professional advice before investing so please don't criticise her.

Most of the google search results are from businesses who offer to claim back money on your mis-sold investments, I would suggest finding a reputable firm and determining whether this is a realistic option for your client.

I would be astonished if there's anything that could be done to actually retrieve the promised income but she might get some of her investment back at least.

Thanks everyone. She is getting used to the fact she may not get the £30000 back. Luckily they didn't push their luck as she is extremely wealthy and they could have taken her for a lot more

Warn your client that they will now be on the "mugs list" and have everyone and their dog will try to scam them.

Already done. She won't sign a cheque to anybody ( except me) without my approval. Her family have just found out and are bouncing off the ceiling

Do you know who sold your client the investment? I'm assuming it was a Sipp. Could she claim against the financial adviser even if they've gone bust if they were regulated she could still have a claim.

Regret not- no such luck. She met a representative of The Resort Group and dealt with them direct - no intermediary involved
