Retrieval of HMRC data - does it work with PTP?

Prepopulation of data from HMRC - worth persevering with?

Didn't find your answer?

When the option to get data from HMRC direct into the tax return appeared I immediately tried it & it didn't work but PTP did advise that this was a general problem.  Up to now, I have had clients who have readily produced all info that I might need from HMRC. However I now have a client who hasn't given me the state pension so have tried to do the link again. The routine didn't match how it was supposed to work according to the Help screens. However I did get a link to HMRC & signed into my tax account & all seemed to be going well until I got a message saying HMRC couldn't match any of my data with my account.  As all I have put in is name, date of birth & NI number, I am a bit stuck. Do others get this to work successfully with PTP tax?

I don't bother with it. Are you sure you can get Pension information ? I thought that was one that didn't turn up

You can get the state pension by logging in to the client on HMRC's website through your client list.

Log onto the home page for that client. Click on "information to help you complete your tax return". A list of stuff magically appears, "Not available" is the most common, I'm afraid; what information there is needs checking.

One common error, for instance, has been quoting the weekly rate of pension instead of what was received in the year. Usually happens for new claimants.

Take everything with a pinch of salt and you'll be grand.

What a waste of space nothing listed for the average wealthy OAP client.

I like the sentence above the "nothing availables"

This is a copy of the information held on your official online Self Assessment tax account with HM Revenue and Customs. ie nothing

It's not a major success, imho.

You can get the state pension from the HMRC website if client has a PAYE code & HMRC have put the code detail on the client's bit of the website - doesn't always happen now. This client doesn't have a PAYE code. Phoned HMRC up & got the info immediately but just thought it might be useful to see what HMRC have down for clients by using the retrieve option - if it works.

Note there seem to be a lot of errors today with HMRCs system for data retrieval.
I've pulled a few through this week however today get lots of protocol errors then being told that I don't have authority (when I do).
Another ham-fisted, pretty useless, unreliable HMRC system.

Back to the OP's problem the polling of the digital tax account with software NEVER gives the State Pension, unless it as an old style lump sum with tax deducted. Even then it shows it as employment income which will deny the benefit of any top slicing.

I hadn't noticed the bit about information to help complete your tax return - just looked there & the state pension is shown. Many thanks for that tip. It doesn't show for clients when the pension is coded into the tax code

There we disagree. I think it's more random than that.
