HMRC's response to RTI filing seems to have gone down again, over the last hour. Our phones have gone red hot with callers saying that they file FPS and don't get a response back. I've just tried one, and yes, it goes into the "pending" state where HMRC has received it but not yet responded with success or failure.

Over the last 6 weeks this has been happening more and more, as if HMRC's servers struggle to cope as the data volume they're dealing with increases. Presumably the big employers are coming live now as they were delayed initially.

Not just PAYE.  Self Assessment has been down this morning too.

Service Availability Pages

I'm not sure what the point of HMRC's Service Availability Pages is. They're still stating that a full service is running.

Working on it

If you go to the service issues page now you get a message saying "We are sorry but the service is currently unavailable." Also, developers of software packages supporting submissions have just been told that HMRC are aware there's an issue and are working on it.

Yes, we just got the email. It seems that it took them a couple of hours of downtime  before they updated the service availability page.

Still out

Still not working this morning, but I can see nothing on the HMRC Service Availability page about it.

Odd that still out?

That's odd, I've literally at 9:59 just had an email from HMRC saying that services are back to normal.

Um, wait, maybe "down" is the new normal!

I have tried again

... but I am still not getting a response to the EPS which I filed yesterday.  Perhaps, they are accepting new submissions, but are working their way through the backlog of acknowledgements.

OK @ 1046am Tuesday 17 Sept

Just done an FPS and it is OK @ 1046am Tuesday 17 Sept,

receiving eMail acknowledgment straightaway.
