SA 2016-17

HMRC System

Didn't find your answer?

Just completed my first return for 2016-17 using the HMRC SA system. It has calculated my tax correctly, but is saying that the payment is due 31 January 2017 and not 2018. In addition it has not deducted the payments made on account. So not a good start. Anyone else tried using the 2016-17 return, and how did you get on?

Ach - you're better waiting a few weeks and let somebody else deal with the bugs.

Most accountants here are in practice so will be using software.

Yeah I use taxfiler for my clients but always test the HMRC with my own tax return

You never see payments on account on HMRC software.

Yes I tried to file mine this morning, but it would not let me submit.

I think there is an error in the programme, as the tax calculation deducts tax from interest! So it gave me a refund!

So yup think we are too early and its not ready yet, although the year end has passed

Yes I tried at 0800 and was told to try again at 0900. Tried again then and it 'worked' the only problem is that the summary tax calculation shows zero tax owing whereas the full tax calculation shows the correct figures. In addition the actual tax return generated fails to show the taxpayers name, address or UTR and adds a couple of totally blank pages to the return just for added clarity. Unless of course that is an extended white space box 19 for the agent to comment on MTD!
I then contacted the on-line help time who advised me that their system was working perfectly. When I pointed out the errors I was experiencing, I was advised that I was incorrect as there were no current reports of any problems.
Since my client urgently needs a 2016/17 SA302 for a mortgage application and impending house purchase they were less than pleased with HMRC's performance.
Well at least they have got a year to sort this mess out before MTD, what could possibly go wrong........?!

Can someone explain the point of racing in to file your tax return so early and then coming on here to complain it's not working yet?

Why are all you young people in such a rush ?

Chill.

Ha ha! I agree!
I hardly have time to come on here at lunchtime whilst eating a sandwich let alone bothering about trying to file a return the day after the tax year is up! :-)
