Didn't find your answer?

Have SA316s (notice to complete a tax return) been discontinued - I haven't seen any this year yet?

E-mails

That's exactly what triggered my question. A non-represented neighbour asked me whether the e-mail was genuine.

I believe it probably was, being from the newish gov.uk source. This will almost certainly guarantee non-represented taxpayers overlooking the requirement to complete a return and being penalised next February unless HMRC have some other reminder system in place. I'm not sure how we check which district is the one to use for the return - I rely on the SA316 for this information.

Does the district matter?

The district is completely irrelevant as far as I can see. If you file online the district is not even included in the information that is sent to HMRC. If you file on paper then I understand the district is ignored by HMRC as they all go to the same place for input into the system.

On the rare occasions that I send a paper return, I usually just post it to the standard SA correspondence address.
