Sage

Cannot Restore clients backup

Didn't find your answer?

I have a single user version of Sage which I use to restore clients backups to prepare their accounts (I have 3 clients that use Sage). I don't enter anything on Sage, I just restore backups and print reports etc. to prepare the accounts.

However, I recently took a backup from a client but I can no longer restore it on my pc, I just receive a message stating that the password is not recognised. I entered the passwords for all 3 clients numerous times with no joy. I called Sage and they were no help, they just said I must have entered the password correctly.

Does anyone know if Sage have done something to stop people restoring backups over different company data? I know that Sage frown upon this, as they have mentioned it to me before.

I installed Sage on a different pc and restored the backup ok, but I cannot use Sage on the original pc as I just keep getting the enter password/password not recognised problem.

i can prepare this clients accounts ok, but I am concerned that I will never be able to restore a clients backup again, without buying another pc!

Many thanks

The fact it is PC specific means (I think) it is either a PC issue or a Sage version issue although the latter seems unlikely given the symptoms and it is occurring on all 3.

First thought - have you accidentally changed the keyboard language? Could easily be the cause especially if you are using non alpha numeric characters in the passwords.

PROBLEM SOLVED

I don't know how to delete my above question, but I have fixed the problem.

Solution - go to Select Company page / open folder location / find company.000 folder/ delete ACCDATA folder / create new (empty) ACCDATA folder / Add Company / restore backup.

No idea why the data would not restore in the first place as it restored OK on a different PC.

It only took me 5hrs to find the solution!
