Sage 50 Read Omly

Didn't find your answer?

Has anyone come across a version of Sage 50 that accountanst can use in read only mode and does not cost £1,000 plus?

(i) Setup a new user in Sage with read-only access.

(ii) As Sage used to use the same data structures for different levels of package (Bookkeeper, Accountant, Accountant Plus and Financial Controller), ISTR that data could be copied into a different level of package, and would give the functionality governed by that package. So if you had a client who had Accountant, you could load their data into Financial Controller and be able to read it. You might be able to do this vice versa, which is the question being asked.

All academic now as the only software they do now is Cloud based.

Ah yes, I should have been a bit more careful in my wording.

Rather than the word "based", "managed" or "administered" might have been better terms. As per the original question, I believe that the concept of buying Sage for £1,000+ in perpetuity (sans SageCover) has been replaced by a monthly fee.

To solve the same problem, I am using TeamViewer or Chrome Remote, to remotely access the clients computer, generate any reports needed and assist with year end routines.

It has the added bonus of the client being impressed that you are familiar with such dark arts and it costs nothing.

All our clients that use Sage use desktop Sage, though confusingly it is called Sage 50cloud Accounts. Sage switched from perpetual licences to subscription just before MTD came out. They realised that anyone who had to use MTD would be compelled to switch to subscription, or would change supplier. Most are MTD and therefore have to pay a subscription: about £20+VAT a month. We have Sage desktop and link to their data over the interweb using SageDrive (or whatever it is called today). Works very well and doesn't require the client's PC to be switched on. TeamViewer (other flavours are available) is a good solution if you won't want to buy any software at all. It means the client can't use their computer whilst you're using it but you can use it to teach them. I've been using UltraViewer for the same reason: I can fix the problem and show them on screen, talking to them over the phone.
