Sage Accounts 50 & VAT changes

Upgrade options

Didn't find your answer?

I must confess to not being the biggest fan of Sage and although I have used it for years and know the legacy versions quite well, I have moved most clients away to cloud systems.

I have one particular client still on Sage and they are using an old version of 50 Accounts (2013).  They are a wholesaler and have something like 5000+ products selling to several hundred clients, all with varying prices etc etc.  The client is very comfortable with Sage and it works well for them and so I haven't really looked to move them.  They dont pay for Sage cover and resist Sage's continual attemps to upgrade them as what they have does the job.

With the VAT changes coming up I have just looked at the Sage website; I am out of touch with Sage's current offerings but it looks like they will need to pay £60 a month for cloud 50 - is this their only option?

I have considered Xero with something like Unleashed as an add on, but this will also cost a similar amount a month?  Is there a cheaper option that I'm missing?

Thanks,

I have a client in a very similar situation so I will follow this thread with interest. For the time being , they are holding fire. In the short term, with the loss of access to online VAT filing, they will revert to manual completion of the Government Gateway VAT return.

For MTD, we are waiting to see what is required in the expectation that there will be a way of making submissions that will satisfy HMRC criteria.

We too are holding fire for the minute and as the Y/E in 31 January we are OK for the moment.

With regard to your statement on manually filing through the gateway, I was under the impression that this will not be possible after April 2019 and some software usage will be necessary?

If your client is on an old version of Sage, they will have lost (or are imminently about to lose) the ability to file online direct from Sage. Hence the need to return to manually typing the figures in. You are right that MTD will force the issue.
