I have two clients who use Sage. They give me a memory stick of the back up.
I have loaded their program disc onto my PC. When I try to open the program Sage now check online and say they do not recognise the user. I have entered the activation key and serial number and got 7 days use. The program is now locked.
I do not want to pay Sage for using this program. Is there anyway that Accountants can use Sage without paying extortionate fees? The fees are not that high so this would make the job uneconomical.
Can anyone help or advise me?

They are trying to get you to pay through the nose for an accountants version.
I have 2 clients left on Sage.
One we dial in remotely to their computer to extract reports and key in any journals
On the other the chap leaves his laptop with me for a couple of days (!)
Longer term - tell the client to use something else or his fees will go up.
Sage must be desperate. It's a very dangerous business strategy they've chosen. If the software is hard to use, folk will choose something else.
Use movemybooks and change to something else.
Sage have really not thought this through well at all.
There is a migration path available from Sage to other products but not one that allows you to stay with Sage from desktop to cloud.
Which for me that would seem like a massive school boy error only an Idiot on the apprentice would make but it really happened.
What about
https://uk.sageone.com/partner-edition-accountants/
although I no longer act for the client which used this arrangement, it (unexpectedly) worked for me.
I use version 24 and you can only use it on one computer at a time.
Is your customer using it at the same time as you?
Also, does his version have Sage Drive:

Even if he is not paying for support, Sage will install Sage Drive on his pc foc if the version he uses supports Sage Drive.
Hi, if you want to drop me an email il look into this for you and let you know what your options are.
In addition, we do actually offer a migration where we can migrate data from Sage 50 Accounts to SageBusinessCloud Accounting taking across with it full audit trail and transactions going back atleast two years, we also offer this service from competitor cloud products to our Accounting product.

Do you charge extra for the migration?
Hi, provided that the client is not currently in any contract then the migration is not charged in addition. Their are some circumstances where migration may not be possible but this is on a case by case basis e.g. If the database is corrupted and the trial balance is unbalanced. it would not be appropriate to attempt to migrate this database in its damaged state. again drop me an email and il be happy to send you more info on the process

Above you will find some general information around our migration from 50 to Accounting, we also offer migration services to Accounting from Xero / QBO through Movemybooks.
Hi Glenn,
Yes this is definently possible as I have done many of these migrations myself. Most of our migrations to Accounting come from clients who were previously using historic versions of instant accounts
