Sage Payroll - Sage Cover or Cover Extra???

Sage Payroll - Sage Cover or Cover Extra???

Didn't find your answer?

I just had a call from Sage to say that we need to renew our Sage Cover for our payroll system and I wondered whether people think we need Cover Extra or not?

We have a 3 company, multi-user licence for less than 50 employees. All 3 companies have fairly basic set ups and we don't need anything complicated but find the Sage Cover useful for the legislation updates and rate changes every year.

The basic Sage Cover is £500 +VAT but he said we would need to have a system upgrade to the latest version, in order to be up to date ready for RTI next year, which would cost an extra £350 +VAT.

So he was pushing the Extra cover for £825 +VAT which includes the system upgrade but all I'm wondering is - do we really need the new software? Will 2011 be able to cope with the new RTI requirements? Can I get away with paying just the £500 +VAT???

I may just be being tight but I am just a little bit apprehensive about what the Sage guy was telling me, given the fact that he is really just selling a product... Any help would be greatly appreciated as always.

Have a look at this

http://www.moneysoft.co.uk/payroll-software/payroll-manager-prices.htm

Payroll Manager by Moneysoft - is far easier to use than Sage and will cost you only £112+VAT including unlimited support and updates during the year, P11D and CIS bundled in.

Out of interest, if you swap from Sage to Moneysoft, can you transfer the historic data easily from one to the other?

Yes it should be fairly straight forward

Sage System Upgrade

I am sorry to say I suspect you will have to pay for the Sage system upgrade as for RTI the software will have to operate in a slightly different way.

Given the fact that you only need the software for 3 companies I would agree that Moneysoft can deliver the same data at a vastly lower cost. I think it would be worth you trialling one of your smaller payrolls for the rest of the payroll year on Moneysoft to prove to yourself how easy it is to use and then moving to Moneysoft on 1st April.

Change to Moneysoft for next year

As suggested, trial it now for free.

SCVE no longer needed to be RTI ready

Having recently spoken to my Sage Business Partner manager - it appears that you dont have to buy Cover Extra to be RTI ready - as HMRC are saying that it is a legislation change therefore all under Sage Cover contract.

The Payroll program will pick up once youre company has been selected for RTI using the e-submissions settings and then extra buttons will appear in that section of the sage program.

Sage payroll cover

I used to use Sage Payroll about 5 years ago, and if there where any errors in the payroll, and any month needed to be re-done (for example we were not told an employee had left).  I had to resurrect that particular month, then after making the change, re-do the month after again.  It was a nightmare.  I don't know if this has changed.  And RTI will certainly mean that this info has to be correct for sure each month.

However, just to re-iterate previous answers, I have used Moneysoft for 5 years now, and it is fantastic.  It is in a spreadsheet format, so that you can see every month for everyone instantly, and if you get some information about a previous week/month, and you amend, the amendment cascades down without having to re-do any period.

I process P11d's as part of the price, if you phone them they are really helpful at no extra cost.  And already have RTI information section displayed so that you know what is to come.

I don't see the need to spend any more than buying the payroll manager 100, which more than covers most payrolls.  The updates come free during the year, as you see a notification and just click on it to receive the update. Its a pleasure to use, as I know I am not being ripped off!
