Sage rejects date

Instant 2011

Didn't find your answer?

Hi weekenders.

Client has used Sage Instant 2011 for years- just had email saying the program has suddenly started to declare todays date invalid and won't proceed

Error kicked in part way through a run of bank transfers- all OK until she paused for a short while.  Tried all methods including built in calendars, but Sage still rejects.

Client running Windows 10 on a nearly new laptop.

Anyone else experienced this?  And any way to resolve?

What does Sage say? Don’t say you promised her a reply over the weekend.

Hi Andy- thanks for that. Very special client who does deserve a weekend response. Away on hols Monday and VAT deadline will be affected.

Sage just says "invalid date format" but it could be that the computer has the incorrect language & keyboard on Win 10. I've told her to check same and ensure UK throughout. However we can't understand why it's been OK for a few hours, and other routines (eg bank payments) accept date with no problems.

The business is hi-tech enough to check this through.

Surely 2011 is a very old copy of Sage. Is client so insolvent they can't afford a new one? She could buy one online now and upload an old backup which should convert. That would solve this problem and many more to come. Yes, she might get a price shock, but she's had a lot of value from the 2011 copy.
I've got clients on 2014 and that's too old in my opinion, so they will be either upgrading or moving to Xero shortly.

I fully agree, Moonbeam but this client rather set in her ways and happy with 2011. My recommendations to upgrade not received well. Have to respect wishes.... Grateful if we could stick to her original problem please.

Her original problem was using Sage in the first place. If they don’t get you on the swings they get you in the roundabouts.

Is this any help?

https://my.sage.co.uk/public/help/askarticle.aspx?articleid=13950

I see they are already trying to check the international settings so they may have already covered the steps in the article above.

Thanks for the input, folks- matter has been resolved and MAY affect later versions as well. For whatever reason Win 10 & Sage disagree on dates. If that happens solution is to switch Win 10 to US keyboard and language, restart, switch back to Uk and restart. Their techie guy says possibly a recent Win 10 update, but unsure. The above (tedious) process has worked for her- VAT now filed and they are off to the sun tomorrow.

Good luck with filing your vat on this version in April next year.

You have heard of MTDfVAT right?

Doesn’t matter how special your client is - you need to deliver a stronger message re software my friend unless she is exempt.

If she is happy with and knows the software and it works for her, stick with it and don't get drawn into the hype and expense.

It is dead simple to export from Sage into Excel (probably best via csv). Then one of the much touted spreadsheet bridging links to HMRC completes the task. Bound to be cheaper than investing in new Sage or other software.

If these bridging links turn out to be v. expensive or the Sage software is no longer adequate for her needs then then it might be time for a rethink.

is the download [csv] or upload/input/import file correctly date formatted? just a thought
