Sage VAT Return Error code 1046

Sage VAT Return Error code 1046

Didn't find your answer?

I've been submitting VAT returns quite happily for the last year on Sage 50 2011 and laterly 2012 but for some reason the last 4 companies when I have come to submit I am receiving the 1046 error - user authentication failure.

I have client manager submitting the returns for the different companies I look after under my agent details. I have double and triple checked my 'agent credentials' on the company settings tab - and can't believe I have this wrong on four different companies.

Rang sage support who went through the process of making me delete my info and re-typing gateway id and password to no avail so they said I had to ring HMRC online helpdesk.

HMRC said as I could submit the returns fine using gateway then they couldn't help - aaarghh, going round in circles.

While I can admittedly manually type the info into HMRC online and submit that way, I just want to press the button direct in Sage as it's one thing Sage (normally) does really well.

Any ideas before I ring Sage back (to probably have to go through the same thing again)??????

Ken

Write everything down!

(This will not answer your question. But it will prepare the Clients in case they receive Default Surcharges.)

Keep a careful and accurate note of what you do for each Client and when. Where a Return is submitted and/or paid late, there is a risk of Default Surcharges arising. The circumstances you describe may constitute a reasonable excuse; however you will need to keep a good record of what happened and when. Where the problems are essentially caused by a third party (esp HMRC), then a reasonable excuse may well be established.

Ring Sage Support Again

I don't always get good service when I ring Sage Support re a particular problem.

I leave it a few hours and then ring back and often find someone much better who can help me.

What the Sage support website says:

How to resolve Log in to the Government Gateway and check if the VAT Submission option is available. Delete your eSubmissions Credentials in Settings/Company Preferences/VAT. Select everything in the first box; press Delete; press TAB and Delete until all fields are clear. Enter the credentials again to ensure there are no spaces in the boxes, then try the submission again. If you use Sage 50 Accounts Client Manager and submit on behalf of a client you must also delete the contents in the Accountant tab and enter them again. Check that the business's postcode and the branch identifier for the HMRC office are correct in Settings/Company Preferences/VAT. If the issue still occurs, contact HMRC's Online Service Help-desk on 0845 60 55 999.

This is why I always use the HMRC website for VAT returns!

As a long term user of Sage I prefer not to rely on them too much.

Did you resolve this error?
I am now having exactly the same issue with no success after seeking advice from Sage. How did you resolve the error?
