I did ask sage (as it happens). The answer is basically no.
In my context (a small charity) I will be downloading a PDF of the nominal ledger, and also final TB, saving that and moving on.
Having said that, I won't have a complex purchase ledger to carry over, or fixed assets etc.
I am changing from Sage after our March year end.
You can't access the data once the subscription is cancelled. However, if your accountant still has a sage subscription you could ask them in order to provide access if needed.
Normally, when we do a move from Sage to Xero, given you can scoop out as much data as necessary we offer clients a choice. Clean break; transfer a couple of years of data with a backup option; or transfer 6 years of data so you don't need further backups. We charge for our backup service as there's no guarantee we would maintain the Sage subcription necessary without the income.
