Is it just here, or are others not receiving the automatic acknowledgement for SATR submissions, in the final four weeks before the submission deadline?

Think there may have been some sort of update yesterday.

Had to go through 2sv verification yet again yesterday which wouldn't work just on the phone call. Had to input PERSONAL name, NI number, d-o-b, passport number & expiry date before normal service was resumed. Details that have never been input before.

I had to do this at the weekend to authorise Gbooks to obtain API data even though an earlier authorisation was supposed to last 18 months.

This did not work at first, and I just went into an endless loop and gave up after the second attempt.

The situation seemed to sort itself out a couple of days later so this was not actually a problem with Gbooks but more to do with HMRC systems.

Its a lot of HMRC systems.
I have just called them- will be 'sorted' in a couple of hours as they are doing an emergency software fix.

Think they must measure a couple of hours the same way they measure 5 minutes for answering the phone, or 15 days for replying to correspondence. By saying something, then in reality doubling it and adding an arbitrary number.

After several decades of dealing with HMRC, I feel that they are not as honest as they used to be. There is a definite tendency to effectively lie about many situations but try and disguise this by telling us what they think we want to hear or what they want us to hear regardless of the integrity of the information.

Most of us know when our clients are being economic with the truth but whichever way you look at it, it is still lying.

As mentioned in another post 'There will be 400,000 people in the MTD trials by the Autumn (2016)"

Quite obviously HMRC is the home of incompetency

and, it's the home for honours https://www.accountingweb.co.uk/tax/hmrc-policy/outgoing-hmrc-executive-...
once you've completed your spell with your fellow incompetents?

You seriously couldn't make this stuff up, could you.
Wholly and necessarily, unfit for purpose.

Translated means have switched everything off, unplugged it, waited for 15 seconds and switched it all on again.

I rather liked this I sent to my son at Christmas (though he no longer does legacy support work but is now having much better fun writing new software for clients)

I can confirm that my submissions are not going through this morning after a three hour wait already.

What a joke. HMRC should ensure that current systems work properly before trying something as complex as MTD.

Are they not going through - or are you just not getting the acknowledgement?

Mine says submitted and being processed, but no response - so it went in ok I just don't have proof of that.

My software just says that the Returns have been submitted and that is all. When the submissions are received by HMRC, the message usually changes to say that the Return has been accepted by HMRC and I also receive an email to confirm this.

In short, I have no idea where the submissions are other than that they have been sent to HMRC.

That's fine then - or not, but at least it's much better than "I can confirm that my submissions are not going through"

In some ways I prefer it like this. When the acknowledgements are coming I have to walk to the printer, get the email, attach it to the Return etc. When they aren't I pile all the Returns up, pile all the emails up (when they finally arrive) and ditch them on reception. Overnight the elves come in match them all up all up and put them back in the files for me. mUCH EASIER

I am starting to like the idea of MTD where the client can deal with everything like this themselves and I can go down the pub whilst they get on with it.

Ha, that's what we said before RTI was imposed and yet several years in, it's still not fit for purpose.

The trouble with no acknowledgement you have no proof of submission and will have to remember to check . VAT submission just showing "pending". We have PAYE & SA filing not going through . We are supposed to be "customers" -- trouble is we can't go anywhere else . MTD ? My [***] !

Digita retains proof of submission, as doe IRIS as per an answer below.

What are you using?

I use Iris and all my SA submissions today are "Pending". My software shows they've been submitted but the formal acknowledgement has not been received.

Glad to know it's HMRC that's the problem and not my software.

This has happened in the past and they usually sort it out fairly quickly. I'd hate to be trying to submit returns in the last few hours before the deadline and getting this type of problem.

Seems to me, as we're only at the 4th day of the New year, it might be good practice to take and retain print screen, just in case; the situation either persists, or more than likely, gets worse.
My money's on the latter.

Filed a VAT return earlier this morning and was stuck at pending when I last checked. Now can't log in at all. Nothing explicit on @HMRCcustomers, but just wasted 15 mins reading some of the tweets as some of the replies are hilarious. Feel a little bit sorry for the team manning that account!! (not really :-) )

All this will be a thing of the past with MTD as there'll be much less traffic on the site.

Oh - hang on a minute ............

The good thing is that it is a permanent record of HMRC's failings documented on their Twitter account like a badly behaved D list celeb.

I also had a read and most people were referred to the phone lines and then couldn't get through and anyone who was trying to submit their tax return couldn't. HMRC says the deadline wouldn't be extended. Maybe just get it fixed first.

I'm assuming the issue is not resolved yet. The message on the service status website https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/hm-revenue-and-customs-service... has not changed since HMRC acknowledged the issue.

"We are aware that some customers are experiencing technical difficulties and delayed submission responses. If you are impacted please try again later today. We are working with our IT partners to provide an urgent fix for the problem and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Where on Earth does 'impacted' come from? Surely just 'affected' would have been enough. It is bad enough being called a 'customer'.
