SATR 2017/18 submitted online two weeks ago. Successful acknowledgement received and HMRC system showing receipt. However the tax liability for 2017/18 is showing as nil when the TR has a liability.

The same thing happenned on this client for 2016/17 but I can't recall it occurring for any other client. Only oddity is client is recipient of transfer of marriage allowance. Any ideas why the error?

Exactly that.
Had this a few times. I think it's where client should get transferable marriage allowance but it's not on HMRC systems (even when they have had it for a prior year).
Ring em up & ask for the return to be captured. You'll probably find SA302s come through without the MA.
Then ask client to ask their partner to do the online application to transfer.
Silly system requires a 'surrender' rather than a 'claim.

As Wanderer says it's the MA transfer that seems to cause the problem.

Has the surrendering spouse made the claim in their own return, or online already? If not get them to make the surrender online and then ring the Agent line re your client to get them to track and process the return.

Last one I had included a surrender and claim in the relevant returns and a quick call got the recipient return processed correctly, including the transfer.

The SA302 has been issued for the transferor spouse showing the transfer.
