It rather depends on what you want to scan and how much. I have a Fujitsu Scansnap ix500 which has been quite outstanding and ideal for a one man band like myself. I expect it would struggle with high volumes and it is no use for scanning thick items e.g. books.
I have just received

We've been using a Fujitsu Scansnap S1300i for probably about 5 years with negligible issues. It's a bit smaller and cheaper than those quoted by others above. Occasionally when we've got a 10 page doc that we want to scan to one file it'll get through 8 pages then get stuck and we have to start again which can be a bit annoying (I imagine the bigger ones may cope better with things like this), but as mostly what we scan is 1-2 sheets, being post from HMRC/similar, it's fine for us.
