S/E partner in LLP - expenses you can claim

I have a self employed partner in LLP (solicitors ) -can anyone explain what expenses can be claimed

Didn't find your answer?

Can anyone explain what expenses can be claimed in a self assessment for a self employed partner in LLP.  HMRC website says you cannot claim anything.  But if the partner is in the office once a week and is then working from home the rest of the week, surely they should be able to claim for expenses in connection with working from home.

Not if HMRC say they can't.

Since nobody else has given you an answer (even if this is so basic that you really ought to know it): you only get a deduction for expenses that are paid by the LLP. If the partner wants a deduction, he claims the expense from the LLP, the LLP accounts show a reduced profit, and the partners pay less tax.

David, the point is most of us believe he isn't an accountant. In the highly unlikely event that he is, if he is giving clients advice on the basis of what is on the "HMRC website", then I don't think we help anyone (and certainly not his clients) by plugging his huge knowledge chasms.

Indeed.

And the question arises once again - what else does he not know that he doesn't know?

Where does it say he's an accountant advising others? I rather assumed he was a junior solicitor partner in an LLP looking in vain for the box on his tax return where he can claim extra tax deductions for expenses the firm won't meet ...

He says he has a self employed partner.

Make of that ambiguous statement what you will, obviously.

Another anonymous freeloader who will delete the post then ask Sift to remove if we don’t tell him what he wants to hear?

Are the posts slagging off our profession and nation optional?

If he is a solicitor, it's unlikely he is also a "finance professional" which is the site owner's stated target market.

"AccountingWEB.co.uk is the largest independent online community for accounting and finance professionals in the UK "

If he is a solicitor he could try a site where solicitors give free advice. Good luck with that, as they say.

I am wondering why anyone bothers with questions like this since they all go the same way. Posting as Anonymous for free advice, contributors give up their weekend to reply, the poster then takes the hump if it is not what they want to hear and delete the question, verbally abuse the helpers then ask Sift to remove the post.

Some of the discussion is quite useful, so there may be some benefit to the forum for us spending our time contributing (for example learning something about a tax case, not the bit about all UK citizens being something or other).

Anyway this is just a test since I think I have been banned, even though I was the one who read the case and told her that she had misunderstood the result.

You are not banned as I can see you, but your posts have turned pink which may not be a good sign.

Perhaps the thought police mark the interesting / uninteresting ones in pink?
Or maybe they have a traffic light system leading to a ban (3 pink posts and you're out)?
Not at all a good sign.

Sort of reminds me of the scare you can get if you eat a lot of beetroot.
