Seeking an alternative to Avalara's MTD Filer

Didn't find your answer?

I've received an email from Avalara saying that their free MTD Filer bridging software is being retired from 1 April 2021.

Does anyone have any recommendations of good, alternative bridging software?

I have no need for an accounting solution, this is why a bridging solution would be perfect.

Many thanks!

I'd take a look at Absolute Tax.

the free version is being retired.

does that mean you would n't pay for their paid for version?

how much are you willing to pay?

Their paid version is around £6K for the year, which is a lot!

I was more thinking under £300 a year.

For that price you could have an accounting solution as well (I know you said not) - VTT+ is less than that and a corking bit of kit and can provide bridging for VAT for unlimited clients.

I cannot recommend others as I just use VT for those who dont have their own software.

But, there are cheaper ones out there. Check out some of the recommendations on here from when MTD4VAT was first started alongside the list on HMRC.

Also, have a look at VAT Direct - Awebs very own John Hemming, who gave Awebs some fabulous free advice when MTD4VAT was all about to kick off.

VTT is a excellent solution

With much added value.

If your excel CSV sheets are properly structured,

pulling them into VTT is a doddle.

If not a little effort will soon resolve.

Then...

Then you can easily modify amend play with the figures inside VTT.

Highly visual and intuitive.

Check out the free trial.

Check out the universal Input sheet

For super efficient input...... you may want to.....:

Convert the CSV data to note pad, prevents some hang ups. VTT recommend that approach

Then you are done.

Bonus?
VTT also getting ready for MTD income tax.

The VT download also includes an Excel add-in, VT MTD for Excel, that enables a VAT return to be submitted to HMRC directly from any Excel workbook.

The OP isn’t looking for an accounting solution.

You can use the bridging software and submit from excel. But I wouldn’t buy VT just to do this.

Since I already have VT then it is also my preferred bridging software.

I second DataDear.

I haven't actually used the MTD software but use them for other things. They are a good trustworthy company plus the MTD is free.

Easy MTD VAT

Hi. Sorry I'm late to the game but I'd like to recommend my own software - Easy MTD VAT (https://easymtdvat.com) as a replacement for Avalara. In fact, there have been a number of Avalara users jump ship to Easy MTD VAT in the past few weeks.

The cost of using Easy MTD VAT is £4.99 per VAT return but if you buy in bulk it can go as low as £0.99. When you sign up for an account you can submit your first VAT return for free.
