SEISS Eligibility

Period from 1st June to 13th July

Didn't find your answer?

Given that the eligibility criteria for claiming the second SEISS grant includes being adversly affected by the virus on or after 14th July, does the criteria for claiming the first SEISS grant now include being adversly affected at any time up to 13th July? The ICAEW say yes, HMRC aren't sure. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

Very good question!

I think the goal posts have moved somewhat and Martin Lewis has been trying to get that very question answered on his money show but didn't get very far with HMRC by all accounts!

Thanks. I was unaware of Martin Lewis's programme, but have now watched it. At 9:30 Jim Harra, Chief Executive of HMRC did say to claim the first grant "your business needs to have been affected up to the 13th July" so that's good enough for me!
Thanks to all who contributed to my question

Is the intention to claim now SEISSv1 when there were no adverse effects Mar to May?

Good point, as if it extends for another 6 weeks it could affect some folk now - especially as they only have until Monday to make a claim.

Thanks, Paul. My intention is to advise clients their claim may include these later weeks only if I know that to be true

Contrary to other responders I find it almost impossible to beleive that any trader has not been adversley affected until that term has been adequately defined.
And that will not happen until it is too late to claim.
A claim made can be returned.
